Hi all,
this is my first post so don't be too harsh! hehehe belong to a shooting club in the North West of the UK. Anyways....bought a Columbian K98 (7.62) and fired it for the first time a few weeks back.....to hit the target @300m i had the sight set @ 100m and i was aiming at the mantlet of the butts to hit the screen......mystified was me....after closer inspection of the gun i noticed the slide on the rear sight was above the ramp (see pictures).

Has anyone got a pic of the proper rear sight to see if mine was made up of odds and ends?

And does anyone in the Uk or elsewhere know where i could get one without any probs due to posting parts throught the mail system?

thanks

I don't have a Colombian Mauser, but I have a few Mausers and I took a look at the sights. Seems some fit below the outer edge of the ramp and some don't. I got a feeling yours is as intended.

Attached is one photo of one rifle picked at random....VZ24 with the sight ladder down but slightly above the outside edge of the ramp it fits in............................I guess this is what you are meaning.

I have a columbian mauser I will check but the sight looks right to me.
I have a mojo adjustable sight on mine it goes on in place of the original you can swap it back in about 30 minutes dosnt alter the rifle.
And you can adjust it from 100yds up over easy.
Check out there web site they post to theUK.

I will check my sight to morrow and let you know.
The answer is to fit a mojo rear sight in my opinion.

I would check your foresight height but before you do anything, what sort of a group can you shoot at 5o mtrs? If the group is rubbish then so is your barrel OR your ammo OR both! There is always 'malfunction of shooter' to consider but you did say not to be harsh on you
Oh, and welcome to the funny farm!

I have checked my Columbian mauser the sight is exactly the same as yours .
I have fitted mine with a mojo and it works fine no drilling no tapping it just drops straight in.
I shoot it from 25mtrs out to 200mtrs no problem.

thanks again for the replies...it took me a while to get to the bottom of the problem (due to work) but last week on the range i put it alongside another FN Mauser and it turned out to be the front sight post - worn down! Short of about 2mm.

I wish i could zero at 50m to 100m but the shortest range my club uses is 200m (upto 1000m+ ;) )
