Good afternoon,
I am new to this site and I am trying to get some information on an enfield I had recently purchased...
Rof 7/43 FA21883A
I know ROF is Royal Ordnance Factory and July of 43. The serial number is what I need clarification on.
any help here is appreciated. I do have to mention that I will be purchasing the Enfield No 4 rifle book that is available online at amazon....

Rifle was, going by the serial number, manufactured at ROF Fazakerley. Factory serial numbers were identified by the first digit. Fazakerleys began with 2, Maltbys with 1 etc. Fazakerley used no prefix, the A through to Z, then AA, AB etc.
Post war these changed.
If you can post pictures we might be able to give you more details about the rifle.
And welcome to the site.

Have the image in your computer in some size that is not gigantic. Open the post screen and look to the bottom. Hit the "Upload Attachment"...its in the bar next to the word "Options". When the subscreen opens hit "brouse" When you find the image you want hit "Add the file". Then after attached look for the "Submit" button and click. That's all there is to it.

ok...finally. Sorry for being technically challanged...
yes, it appears that the serial number is a replacement. at least on this one it was not scratched out over and scribbled in like I saw on a Mauser k98. the gun itself is pretty tough shape and I am hoping to restore as best as I can. I am new at this and learning each step of the way.

OK macca you're over the first techno hurdle, well done. Now there is no excuse for not posting further photos
Definitely a Fazakerley rifle - ROF (F)
The A after the serial number designates a non-standard part used in the building of the rifle. This could be anything - something that required hand fitting or wartime expedient parts.
Have a look at this post for on another A suffixed rifle -

thanks for the info. Now...what is the desired method for restoring the rifle? The furniture is beat up a bit and needs attention. Its fun to shoot!

Most of us "serious" collectors would do as little as possible in order to keep the history undisturbed. However, Candyman has a forum here that will give you a lot of restoration ideas if you want to make some improvements for the sake of making your rifle more like issued. Look for "The Restore it Shed" in the index.

I suggest you post the question on the Restore It Shed slot and add some images of the current wood state, you will get some help for certain
