I read somewhere that the aircraft was literally designed and built around that gun.
And since I live so close to Davis-Monthan AFB, they fly over my house almost every day. And on the other side is Tucson Intl Airport, home of an ANG F-16 fighter wing that trains foreign pilots, so almost every day there are A-10 and/or F-16 going low and slow over my house, it's great fun living right between the two airfields.
