I have a Model 1917 Enfield action that has had the ears milled off. I cannot find a serial number on the action anywhere. How can I tell where the action was made and when?

What? Was this some "party weekend" or "New Year" celebration or something? Why doesn't anyone tell me this stuff?

Only three options as to who - Winchester, Remington or Eddystone - so look for a W, R or E stamp. As to when I'll have to hit the reference books for that.

Okay, I checked the receiver and there "may" be an R up under the front ring. There is an "E" and a flaming pisspot on the safety and an "E" on the sear and the trigger. The R is not in any way as clear as any of the Es, but it is the only thing resembling a letter in the English language. I realize that this very well may be a "Franken-Action" and that everything does not match on it. I just want to barrel this cat and she how well it can shoot.

Here is a link to some detail that may be of interest. Go down to page 10 and you will see a little information about what kind of marks you should be able to find and where to look.

Well, according to that I have an Eddystone Arsenal produced action. After I get it checked out for safety by the gunsmith dude. I am thinking about .338 Norma Mag or .300 Win. Mag.
