Remember the Polaroid camera?

Remember when this was the thing to have? Take a photo and see it in minutes! What a marvel! So what if film packs were expensive for only a handful of photos and what if you had to buy a few flash cubes? The penlight batteries that worked the shutter weren't all that expensive and could maybe last a year of use....if you didn't take many pictures. And who cared if on days with the temperature below 65 degrees you had to take the exposed negative-positive photo and put it in a metal clip and hold it under your arm, inside your coat, for a timed 60 seconds while it developed? And...don't forget to warm the clip the same way for five minutes before doing the picture taking and developing.

When I got to Hawaii from Nam in Aug 1969, I bought one of these at the PX, and paid around $80 if I remember correctly.
Still have lots of pics that I took with it, as we used it for years along with various Kodak Instamatics.
And yes, I remember the underarm cold clip and the pack of hard paper backing that came with each roll of film,
you stuck the photo to the hard backing so the photo wouldn't bend.
Polaroid quit making film for them years ago, I think someone else is making film but it's very pricey.

Amazing the stuff we don't need that we don't pitch out, isn't it? Hey ...these things will be seen in a museum one day for late 20th Century junk. Looks like you got the upscale deluxe version , Vern.

Actually, I did throw it away years ago. Just stole the pic from ebay that was a '69 to '71 vintage it said,
and looked exactly like the one I had.
It was the deluxe version for sure, had a separate timer that attached to the carrying strap.
And I still remember how less than happy my wife was when I told her how much I paid for it.

I took lots of photos with my 100. Still have the pictures and the camera/flash attachment in the carrying bag.
I used to take photos as good as many people could do with a 35mm camera.
Why should we throw things like this away? Hell I still have almost every camera I ever owned, from real cheapies to pretty good ones. IF they ever get to the point that I Have to have that space for something more important, Then I'll think about getting rid of them. Hasn't happened in over 50 yrs, so not likely to.

Antiques Road Show was in my town a few years ago....wish I had taken the camera so the guy could tell me it was worth between $2000 and $3000. Hell....some of the Tiffany flower jugs on that show are worth that kind of money and they don't even need batteries, let alone actually do anything but hold water and slow down the wilt of dead flowers.
