The First World War was probably the first conflict to be comprehensively recorded for prosperity. Not only are we able to draw on archive footage of cine film and numerous still photographs but we also have recorded narrative from those who participated and survived.
The silent witnesses of the numerous burial grounds also adds to the records and we should be ever grateful for the sacrifice of those who rest in those burial grounds.

I hope that he now finds solace with his contemporaries .
