That is nice. That stock would be "curly maple" don't you think?
Some years back I was interested in building BP guns. Never got further than kits...but there used to be a few sources for stock blanks and some of those blanks that were of the premium maple cost as much and more than complete reproductions. Of course there was also a method of taking a lesser piece of wood and doing a burn method to make it look like "curly maple"....but I would guess that it was frowned upon by the cognosente. In fact I'm sure it was.
