ANZAC Day again

ANZAC Day has rolled around again and I'm just off to the Parade and this year, sadly, my one time Platoon Corporal, 'Lofty' Gaden will be beside me as usual but in a wheel chair. Makes me rather sad to contemplate the fact. I thank God that I can still get around even though I'm a bit patched up.
All the best to any Vets, of no matter what Nation, that may be reading this.
Eoin.

At least Anzac day is in line with your countries history and all Australians can get behind the meaning of it.
Tomorrow is Confederate Memorial Day in Alabama and a few other southern states. It is set aside to remember and honor the confederate dead of the war that started 150 years ago that ultimately freed the slaves when the Union won. My wife and son get the day off from their different jobs, with pay, even though this holiday is a relic from a different time. Wonder what the black people they work with think about it.....having the day off to memorialize the long dead men that fought to keep their great great grand parents slaves?
I had a great grandfather that was a Confederate veteran. Like most Confederates he didn't own any slaves.......I don't think. I feel like he went to war for the Confederate side just because his state went to war and he had no alternative but to fight for his state, his city, his home, his friends. And...I have no idea where he is buried, although I'm sure it is in the same city where I live.
I don't own any Confederate Flags and wouldn't fly one if I had it. Or, maybe just this one.
