Another acquisition from the local gun dealer.
.410 ga single shot. Sometime back I was given 101 assorted .410 shells so when this came up for $A80 I just had to buy it so as to use up the ammo

besides which the youngest sprig will get his liscence soon and this will serve well to introduce him to the shotgun.
Weight is 6.50 lbs and the trigger pulls 3.25 lbs for the first and 5.25 for the second. The let off is very crisp, better than many rifles.
It was originally a BSA 1916 No1 Mk 3* and the action is in excellent condition, which shows, perhaps, that when Slazengers coverted these just after WW2 that good serviceable rifles were used.....there were plenty of 'em

In the US there have been some imports of some SE Asia #1 .410's used by police departments. These rifles had been modified for 2 inch shells which are not the same as the standard 3 inch US shells. What kind of ammo does this rifle... shotgun...use?
And... there were some modified for the US by Springfield Sporters, or maybe whoever actually imported them, to the standard shell. Springfield Sporters used to sell the "special select" modified to US spec rifle-shotguns for $85. I screwed up in not getting one. (They still looked like 1MKIII's by the way, not sporters.]

I haven't fired it yet but it will chamber 3" shells and even some European ones that are about a 1/4" longer than the 3" rolled crimp shells that I have, so it's at least chambered for 3".

Took it out yesterday and shot some inoffencive cardboard boxes at 25 yards. Fired a variety of cartridges and 1,2,3,4 and 6 and 7 shot. All would have killed rabbits, mind you a couple of them would have had to be unlucky.
When these guns were converted they had a very short choke swedged on the end of the barrel, on this one it's been cut off.
A screw-on variable choke seems a good option.

I've been having a blast with my 1918 BSA 410 . It's stamped for 2 1/2" shells but I put several 3" through it as well and it worked very well . I patterned it at aprox. 16" at 25 yd using #4shot .I'll have it measured properly before I try 3" slugs.
