Another MKIII bayonet with Ishapore connections
I got a Lithgow 1MKIII* a few years ago and this bayonet came with it. The number on the handle being 101 and the rack number on the rifle butt being 139 they weren't a match. However, with the bayonet in particular, the black paint gave away the Ishapore connection even from a distance.

Re: Another MKIII bayonet with Ishapore connections
Looks like a No.1 Mk.II* Bayonet made at the workshops of India's North West Railway (NWR) to me. I have one, that was made there in 1943 (marked "NWR"
"43")
Just like yours.
I think these were also made at the Ishapore Rifle Factory as well? I have three Indian made 12" bayonets for the No.1 Mk.III Rifle. One is a No.1 Mk.I* (Pattern-1907 Bayonet that has been cut down to 12" blade), a No.1 Mk.II* (just like the one in the photos) and a No. 1 Mk.III* bayonet, the last version with the "square" pommel.
Hope I made some sense?
Thanks
Mark

I have a 1943 No.1 Mk 11* with the shortened black leather No.1 scabbard and webbing frog.
Unfortunately i don't have the Ishapore rifle to go with it.

Thanks guys. That's more than I would have ever known about it without your comments.

the star in mkII* was to do with incorporating the false edge to the top of the tip of the blade , the mkII had none

A Square, just when I think all past interesting posts are gone for good you come along again. Thanks for that. Although I got to think you are the only one who goes back several levels to bring up old posts. Maybe if more people would do it this forum would have more gravity.
