The Tuskegee Airmen display at the Battleship Alabama park caught my eye yesterday. The P51 on display has the name of a Tuskegee pilot from Prichard, the armpit of Mobile, painted under the canopy. And there is a black manikin pilot standing next to it....which fills the bill and tells the story in itself.
I used to go to Tuskegee every so often when I was a factory rep in the furniture business. It looks like just another small town in the sticks. Those black airman put it on the map though......and back in the day of a serious Jim Crow south.
