Spent most of the day yesterday at the range and I think I have cracked it!



11 Rounds of R.E.A.L. bullets dip lubed with 40% Bees Wax, 40% Shortening Fat and 20% Sunflower Oil plus one of Roberts (blue circle) without any cleaning!

followed by....................



5 rounds of R.E.A.L. bullets with the Green Lube - can't remember what I put in that

It was a great day, finished off by 20 rounds of .22 from my Norinco Mauser.

Am pleased you are having success with the lubed bullets , and your groups are quite good too .
Have you noticed there is not a lot of fouling either and loading is much easier

You know, whatever I try it never goes smoothly

Cleaning the rifle raised a problem that I had the first time I shot it.
Being an inline there is a screw in plug that holds the nipple chimney. The gun comes with a removal tool like a box spanner but the plug was seized in solid and would not turn.
I tried WD40 but it didn't work.
Finally I plugged the hole in the plug by screwing in the musket chimney that had been sealed with lube wax. I then filled the barrel from the muzzle with boiling water and soap and left it for about an hour.
After some persuading it finally came out.
I seem to have heard of using Brake Fluid and other such liquids to free things off so what can anyone suggest, not just for me but other members too who might need some advice

As far as trying to prevent it from happening again I have added some SISTEMS high tech choke grease to the threads to see if this will prevent them from seizing.

Looks like you have a lube solution that works on the bullets for sure. Good to see you have it figured out.

I think you are on the right track with the lube on the screw threads too. I always put some grease on the threads to the clean out screw, those guns that have them, as well as all firing nipples when I put my BP guns back together after cleaning. I think this prevents future binding problems. Probably the same principle would apply to the inlines as well...not that I have any.

Next time try slackening the plug just after firing ,I found this to work , I also carry a small flask with boiling water which I pour down the barrel and swab out again just after I finish shooting I also liberly spray gun oil on the threads of the plug and inside the barrel .

'nother tip of the week - use teflon tape on the threads, and the nipple will come out extremely easily... Either that of some hi-temp lubricant like copper paste. Works like a charm...
To free seized stuff, a mixture of oil and aceton is better than any pentrating oil - but even that needs some soaking time.

That's a good one! I just went and had a look in the depths of the workshop and found a tube of Comma Copper Ease http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/220 which I bought to put on the back of disc brake pads and the caliper to stop them squealing.
"Prevents seizure due to heat and corrosion" Temp range -40ºC to +1350ºC. although I notice on the website they have reduced the upper temp to +1150ºC.
That has GOT to work

After last nights Skype chat with blackisler I mixed up some 50/50 Alox and Beeswax and the result looks very promising

I shot the Alox/Besswax lube yesterday, only had time for 12 rounds but seems to work fine with no cleaning needed
