Today's target shooting my 1858.
I changed from the Chasse BP to the 3F I used in my Ardesa rifle - what a difference ;)

First 6 were shot offhand.......RUBBISH
Second 6 were shot supporting the hands on the bench- no bench rest though.
Third 6 were supported as in the second set but I had drifted the foresight left - BINGO! I actually shot a descent group for the first time and the gun was so much cleeaner.

My biggest problem is the small hand grips on this gun. Anyone know if you can get bigger grips? It is a Pietta by the way..................

I love it when a plan comes together

You know Pietta makes an over sized grip New Army. But probably you could just fashion a grip or find one that can be temporary as an addition slipped on to back side of the grip. You can't add any handle material to the grip on the trigger guard side and still get your fingers in with any comfort I'd guess.
