Modern Fabletellum

Once upon a time there was a nonconforming sparrow who decided to stay instead of flying south for the winter. But soon the weather turned so frigid that he reluctantly started to fly south.

In a short time he became so cold that his wings refused to work and he fell to earth in the middle of a pasture. As he shivered on the frozen ground, a cow came along and, not even noticing the sparrow, dropped a large, steaming patty on the poor bird.

The sparrow thought this was the end, but he managed to get his head out far enough to breathe, and soon he realized that the warmth of the cow patty had saved him from freezing to death. He was so happy that he began to sing.

The singing attracted the attention of a fox that was passing by. The fox came over to investigate, dug the sparrow out of the cow patty, and ate him.

There are three morals to this story:
1. Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy,
2. Not everyone who digs you out of a pile of shit is your friend, and
3. If you’re warm and safe in a pile of shit, keep your mouth shut.
