Winchester 1894

This is one of those rifles that I (along with every other red blooded American boy) have wanted since I was a kid. My oldest son's late unpleasantness with the law has left him unable to possess firearms of any sort so I have inherited his Win 94.

About this time last year my feeble attempt to sleep in on a Sunday morning came to an abrupt end when my son walked up to my bed, shoved this rifle in my face, and said "does this look broken to you? I just missed 2 deer with it." Turned out that it had landed scope first after falling out of his tree stand.

To me, there is a simple elegance to a strait stock.

Hard to believe that this is pretty much unchanged since it first appeared 118 years ago.

It had a scope on it but it just doesn't look right with a scope. Besides, it's more fun to shoot with irons.

The AE stands for angle eject.

Some speckling due to my son storing it in the laundry room.

I always had a fancy for a 30.30 myself and picked up a reasonably priced Winchester 94 just before Christmas. :D
I had to lodge it with my local friendly RFD until my "ticket comes back from renewal. As my licencing authority is Durham and, due perhaps to the recent events at Horden, this seems to be taking a while to process.

Will you be hunting with yours Curtis? Mine will be mainly for target shooting with various cast boolit loads.

Will post piccies when available,

Joe

I am planning on some easy on the shoulder cast loads and steel plates. We tried clay birds on the 50 yard berm but I don't have 30-30 dies yet and factory gets a bit expensive.

We usually shoot the clays with .22's and we keep shooting until there is not a visible speck of orange left. Sometimes it takes 20-30 rounds to vaporize the entire clay but that's the fun of it. We normally use Bob's Marlin 60 and my Remington 597. It's almost not a contest since I put that BSA Sweet .22 scope on mine.

Sounds like you have a plan there, we will have to compare load data when we are both up and running.

I have a 94AE in 357 magnum it was the second rifle I ever bought I like it a lot would not part with it.
I used to shoot it indoors but I dont have access to a indoor range any more so it gets very little use still would not part with it though.

I have shot it at Vimy I give it a blast every now and again to blow the cob webs off.
I fitted a Williams peep sight on the back of mine its a no gun smithing job. The sight is adjustable for windage and elevation.

Dave, is it the Williams sight that uses the factory mount holes on top of the receiver?

If it is and you get a chance, would you post a pic of it?

Yes it is the one that uses the factory threaded holes it goes on in about 5 minutes and comes of just as quickly.
I will take some pics and post them.
