Whats your favourite shooting Enfield?

I know its an old chestnut but still is fun :D

On the new board we can have up to ten questions so this should make for better choices as we had to have 2 polls on the old board to give us a reasonable Enfield choice.

I know the rifled musket is a bit odd but I've just got one and I love it so its in

I'll put another poll up to deal with the .22's later.

Be sure and post as well as just voting to give your reasons and any further specifics as to make, year etc.

Nothing odd about the Rifle Musket and besides I don't get to shoot my wife's SMLE No.1 Mk.1*** very often!

I don't actually shoot a P/53 Rifle Musket, but an original two-band dated 1866, privately made but similar to the P/60 Short Rifle. Maybe there should be a few more distinctions between the muzzle loading Enfield's and just 'other' to cover the newfangled breech loaders!! :D

The richness of Enfield variants challenges the 10 item poll facility here.

David, the Enfield front stuffer distinctions would make a good poll on the BP forum methinks :D

Adam, I clicked 'other' as my favorite is my L42A1. It seemingly has no ammo. prefrence (so far) and is just 'shooter friendly'.

Your poll, tho' simple in concept really made me sit back in my chair and ponder. :D

It was a vicious triangle along with the (T)less and a '43 Maltby, but since both of those prefer one brand of ammo (dis-similar) the L42 won out.

Aye Brad,

I had a bit ponder too when setting options about the L42 as it is a class rifle, however it is beyond the reach of many collectors both in numerical rarity and price so it wasn't included, its near cousin the L39 was put in though as it is more numerous especially in the Envoy guise.

However the L39 was built on the MK2 receiver and the L42 was on the Mk1 reciever so they are cousins not brothers.

I also struggled over whether or not to include the No1 MkV although a variant it was could have had a place in its own right.

But this is all part of the fun of a mental exercise like this :D

Next we should get real geeky and set some polls about type variants.

I voted for the No1 myself not because it is necessarily my vavourite shooter, my eyes prefer apertures now, but its what I'm shooting most of at present as I like the challenge of the notch rear sight.

Twisted logic or what?
