As promised I finally got off the second set of pictures to you. There was an extra picture I think you will find interesting in that group. I hope it helps.

Thank you, I got the pics. First set I got, BTW, :) the other photos you posted in your forum with a link here and a link to the post sent to me. I did not have time to have a closer look on them. But I will reply soon...

Thanks again

The bayonet device is definitely not German, sorry. It looks a little bit like the G88 one, but if you enlarge the pics you can see clear differences. It does not seem to be French either.

The next reason not to be German is that the job wasn't done well. No German gunsmith, especially no military gunsmith, would leave the band spring in place without shortening it to fit the band hole. Just the same with the shortened barrel plus front sight attached without a base.

Did you try to attach a bayonet? If yes, which one fits the lug? Is it in line with the barrel after being attached? Does a muzzle ring fit really?

In the moment my opinion is that the alteration was done privately without too much knowledge. Someone shortened the barrel and tried to use the old front sight with some old front band at hand. May be I am wrong, but…..

THE RIFLE

Post by RGRWJB » Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:26 pm

The gentleman that sold it to me obtained this from Century Arms with a batch of other Finnish "SA" marked 91/30 rifles. I certainly would like to know who, when and why on this gun. I find the scrubbing of the reciever and the replacement of the very small font serial number in the scrubbed area, interesting too.

Thanks for the info Karl.
