Hornady 17 Mach II Range Report II

Post by ajcarey » Sun Oct 03, 2004 1:46 pm

Following the suggestion to put a rubber washer on the bolt holding the forestock of my NEF Sportster really made a dramatic improvement in the accuracy and consistency of the Hornady .17 Mach II.

Here are the results of four 10 shot strings.

The targets are three inches in diameter with an inner circle of 1 1/2 inches. Conditions were not ideal with a five mile per hour wind blowing from right to left, gusting to 15 mph. My shooting for group size was not enhanced by the four cups of coffee that I had before going to the range, but the results show a dramatic difference from what I encountered on my first test of the new .17HM2.

For those who care about such things, the Lot No was H18K19.

17 gr V-Max bullet.

I took the chrono and measured all four stings. Average velocity for the strings was 1989, 1988, 1995, 1994 fps. The high velocity was 2036 fps and the low velocity was 1931 fps.
