What happened to the butt plate? I can see what a lot of people did to bubbasize a rifle, but removing the butt plate?? That one's got me.
You will find that almost all the Argentine rifles have the crown ground off. Just like the Japanese Arisaka rifles. Unground ones CAN be located, but just having an intact crest or mum on them commands real high prices, usually out of the realm of what a person wants to pay for a shooter rifle. What I would do is to look around for a replacement stock. If one in decent shape could be located, it would probably be worth your while to restore the rifle. But it may take a long time to find such a stock. If no stocks are available, then I would say to go ahead and do whatever you want to do with it. I am not THAT pure to insist on restoring it. Heck, afterall, I am also guilty of doing some bubba work on milsurps years ago. Gee, to think of it, it was over a third of a century or a couple generations ago!; I regret it now, but back in the early 60's, it was par for the course.

Re: Sporterizing or Restoring
Lord know what happened to the plate... I'll see if I can clean the bore, and if it shoot's fine I'll look for a stock.
