Vimy Barracks 25m range (foto post)

Had a really pleasant day at Vimy yesterday, the weather was almost springlike. I mainly use my .22s here, unless i am chronographing my handloads or trying out cast lead bullets in my full bores.

I suppose 25m military ranges are much the same around the world and this is the one our club uses every other Saturday. (if we are not on the gallery or ETR ranges.)

Very nice Joe.

Weather looks so nice I'm wondering why everyone is still in jackets, gloves and hats.

Our .22 cadet range at school was similar only much narrower - it was the school handball court most of the time.

Ah! Those were the days!!

I just found out that it is possible to use military ranges over here but the nearest to us is near Bayonne. That's about a 3 hour drive. I need to have a word with our President to see if the club could arrange a trip one weekend.

The range I use for pistol is much like that, only no grass or pits. Unfortunately we are on borrowed time with it, the base its on will be closing soon and no doubt the land will be sold for housing development. We do use it the odd evening as there are lights.

Joe, the lawn looks like spring alright. But that is a strange looking "range" to me. What's behind the big cement looking wall? Looks like a lot of construction for a short range course., although I'm sure there is some reason to it.........right? Why not just a big dirt mound to absorb the projectiles?

Robert the range is on the camp, just behind the backstop and concrete wall is a sports field and part of the car park. The barracks are situated in a built- up area of miltary family housing and civvy housing as well as other nearby barracks.

Troops regulary train in the woods around the range , the nearby obstacle course, the sports field and NBC training gas blocks.

Saturday was a parents day when families visit the recruits so there were a lot of civvies moving about in the vicinty . Safety is paramount on the Catterick complex.

very nice looking range , quite inviting to me today - started the day at -25 f , didnt clear 0 , frost bite weather - leaves me wishing for some shooting temps

It is now 73 deg. here in Tucson today, supposed to hit 80 deg. today.

Not a cloud in the sky.

Yes, this is one reason I live here, can't remember the others.
