I have had this rifle taken apart for about 5 months now and I am finally starting to make some progress. Last weekend I cleaned out the rust from the pitted areas with Naval jelly and a wire brush and put a coat of matte black Brownell's Aluma-Hyde on the barreled receiver, the nose piece, and the trigger guard. This time of year it takes a week for the stuff to cure. I used the same stuff on some AR mags with no finish left on them and they look great.

Over all I am pretty happy with the way it came out, I still have a number of smaller parts to do yet but now the big job is going to be the stock. The butt stock is in very good shape and will re finish nicely and the front and read handguard are probably going to be OK, but the fore stock really needs help. There is a large chunk missing along the right side of the receiver.
I am going to try and reuse it but I may end up replacing it. All in all it's not bad for the 50 or so dollars I have in it so far.
