SKS quality question
Which manufacturer makes the best/ most accurate SKS rifle? There are so many that it is confusing. I generally lean toward chrome lined bores after the Viet Nam experience but a fellow I know that is in the know about these rifles says the Yugo non chrome lined rifles are the most accurate. Is he correct? I would like to shoot one in the military matches. Regards... G
Everyone worries about being first however I have noticed that it is the second mouse that gets the cheese.
Welcome to the forums Hammer. I have a Russian, an Albanian and a Yugo. They all shoot about the same. The Yugo has one of these odd night sights that may be of some interest if you have less than 20/20 vision. The front sight just flips up or down and has this green neon dot on the night turn of it.
The thing about the SKS is that it makes a pretty good rifle for slinging lead but at 100 yards it isn't precise. For contest shooting just about any bolt action rifle will be more likely to do a little better job, one shot against one shot.
But... don't let me get you off of this course. If shooting a 15 round course of fire, like the current shooting contest here, you will likely get all rounds in some part of the target for score. This is a better chance for all rounds than shooting a bolt action rifle and some old milsurp ammo I'd guess.

Most accurate SKS?
All of them shoot good. The Chinese with chrome lined barrels are ok but the chrome lining is not a suitable criteria for choosing one over another.
Most ammunition shot is Wolf so don't worry about corrosive primers.Even if you shoot military ammo all you have to do is clean it good with Hoppe's #9 or squirt Windex down the barrel after firing.
My personal favorite is the Yugo.

I have a few different milsurp rifles and have found the K31 Swiss to be the most accurate [moa in 2 of 3 rifles] however i have been wanting a semi auto and do not want to go to the expense of the AR. Winning is nice but I really just want to shoot this rifle from the standing position so 2 moa would be acceptable. Regards...g

i agree with you on the swiss , ive just divested myself of my three to finance two purchases , i will miss them dearly , but i "had to have" my mkV enfield and a webley 22 conversion , both were a bit higher than some might consider prudent but we only live once and the opportunities dont come every day , so with these and some other items i 'really needed' i found it the right time
i thinmk you will like the sks once you start you will be looking for ammo to feed it - also a recent purchase that was too good a deal to pass on
