Roadtrip find: Chinese T53

Post by awo425 » Wed May 23, 2007 9:29 am

Just was exhausted after writing an exam, I chose to visit a gundealer nearby and relax somwhat chatting and looking at guns

Spyed two new Mosins in his rack, one caugh my attetion, because of the real dark collored stock. The other was a pretty normal 1945 M44 refurb but the dark one turned out to be a chinese T53

Barrel looked dirty, got my pullthrough out and cleaned all the grease out.

Was nearly blind looking down that pipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like new rifling, sharp crown :loco:

Besides that all stamped matching numbers, real good workmanship and a smoth trigger.

The stock is soaked full of grease, will give it the black plastic bag threatment and carries a lot of small stamps all over.

Is the X Stamp on tang and bolt normal????????????

Only saw one T53 besides mine(now owned by Martin ;) )

Yup, still very happy to have that T53 in my collection.

Strange thing about my T53 was that the wood looked like it had gone through WW III and the metal looked like new.

I worked a bit on the stock.

Not to let it look like new, just did some cleaning and tried to give it back its original color.

I don't think I did a bad job.

To bad I can't take her to the range.

Bore looks like new so she shouldn't shoot all that bad.

Thanks Chris.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

Hello Martin,

Maybe the stock was changed?????????

I will set mine in the sun tomorrow at work and let the grease sweat out.

Got the rifle in parts already, no bad rust, bisides under the butt plate.

Do you have pics of the german proof and importer stamps?????

The 1945 M44, that came in together with the T53 did carry also the TOM importer stamp on the right and an 1980s Ulm proof on the left.

The wear on my T53 is very even, seems the former user did take good care of it.

You might be right about the stock Chris.

The numbers on the stock do match the numbers on the barrel, but the type of numbers used is different.

I don't have any pictures of the German proof and importer stamps.

I won't be able to check until Friday.

I do know that on the right side of the receiver there is a circle with a dot.

I don't think that's a German mark though.

I'll be back with you on the subject and try to get some pictures of the markings.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin
