Please shut off your caps lock.

"...A STOCK BLOT BRACE..." If you mean a screw driver to get the butt stock off, use a regular 12" screwdriver. There may be a washer in the hole that needs to come out too. Any device with a wee hook on it will do it.
Spelling and grammar always count.

Field expedient removal of the butt stock

Post by englishman_ca » Sat Jun 23, 2007 12:10 pm

Sometimes the bolt gets rusted on its shank and will cement itself to the wood inside of the stock. If the bolt is frozen in there tight, you can simply buzz through the stock with a band saw at the wrist area about an inch from the receiver socket and cut the rear portion of the stock right off. The front stub of wood can be pried rearwards from the receiver and off the bolt. Once removed, the bolt stub can be held in a vice and the receiver turned to unscrew it.

Apparantley this was a common way to remove a stubborn stockbolt in the days when spare parts were a plenty. I actualy did it with an SMLE once that had a beater of a chipped and cracked butt and stockbolt that was siezed solid.

I know that this works on a Martini, I found a cut up mk.1 stock and bolt at a garage sale last year. I glued the stock pieces back together and drilled it for use as a cribbage board. Gave it to my martini nut buddy for Christmas, he wasn't sure if he should thank me or cry!
