Went to a local gun auction last Sunday...

Written by my brother...(I'm kinda lazy...)

well the pitbull clan's luck kicked in again at a local auction sunday. an area collector was apparently selling off his entire collection of firearms. he brought around 250 rifles and pistols. it composed of everything from commercial hunting rifles, target rifles, military longarms, commerical pistols, and military handguns.

lots of garands, carbines, 03's, mauser's of all types, a few swiss rifles, svt, fn49, rashid, mas's, etc. pricing was all across the board with $1000 rc luger's to $100 mauser's. garands went from $750-$375. carbines went from $700-$350. the svt went for $600.

anyway i managed to walk in after the pistols had gone up for auction (just got off from work) and they were a 1/3 of the way through the rifles. met my brother, my dad, and a friend of ours. our friend tom walked away with a reblued luger for $425, radom and holster w/ 2 mags and a spare barrel for $600 and a norwegian krag carbine cheap ($500 w matching bayonet).

my brother had already picked up a 1947 dated cz27 for $175. as i sat down he won another auction for a all winchester 1917 for $425.

then the carbines went up for sale. while they went cheap to retail prices, i was trying to save my money for a set of vz-52/57 rifles that were listed on the buyers guide. unfortunately, only one was a /57, the other was a regular vz-52, they both went cheap around $350 each, which was more than i was willing to spend. also i failed to pull the trigger on a finn remington m91, i topped out at $175, it went for $200, it wasn't in that great of shape though.

next came up a 1905 ross straight pull that hadn't been buggered with. since no one in the room besides us knew what it was, i was able to snagg it for $200.

the auction toiled on for a while as the orginial lot of 200 firearms were sold. the collector also had an odd lot of 50 rifles not listed on the buyers guide. the auctioneer instead of finishing them off went on to sell the ammo the collector had brought, this made about half of the buyers leave on the spot. we finally convinced the auctioneer to start back on the remaining rifles. to which i was able to snagg an all remington pattern 14 rifle for $225, and my brother was able to get an all winchester pattern 14 rifle for $175.(general ignorance of firearms, and thinning of the crowd helped alot.)

the auctioneer stopped the auction before everything was sold because of lack of buyers, i was the 211th bidder in the door, but at the end there was only 13 of us left. left on the table were a swiss k11 carbine, a g96/11 in .308, a couple of sporting rifles and a siamese mauser.

if i knew were my brother hid the usb cable for the camera i could show the pics of the guns. the guy was a horder apparently as all the guns did not seemed to be fired, or taken well care of. the rifles we got all have mirror bore on them once we cleaned all the crud and cosmo out of them. the stocks are all great except for the gunge on them.

though we won the auctions cheap we got raped at the end with 13% buyers premium, 7.5% sales tax and $8 transfer fee per gun.

all in all i had a great time for my first gun auction, been wanting a ross for a while and had a need for a pattern 14 to go with my 1917 eddystone.

here's a pic of the cache,
