But I do remember going to the Chief Steward and getting an anti VD kit before going ashore when I was in the Merchant Navy. You got a small paper towel, tube of cream to squeeze up your willy, and a small piece of soap! You also got a hand full of condoms - unwrapped - out of a big box

AMAZING what you could do with a condom

Yair, they even used them for muzzle covers on 25 pounders.

I've always been heartened by the 'fact' that Officers never caught VD.

Eoin,

You should realise by now,

Soldiers get Clap or Pox,

Sergeants and WOs catch VD,

Officers contract 'Social Diseases'

Way back when I was in 3RAR, Korea, orders came from Division or Brigade that those unfortunates that had contracted a 'dose' were to be housed in a seperate VD tent.

Our CO at the time Lt-Col 'Spin' Buckler ignored the order until a curt reminder arrived (we got all this from the Bn Ord/Room Clerk).

'Spin' sent back a query as to wheather there was to be but one tent for all ranks or a seperate tent for Senior NCOs and also one for Officers.

He never received a reply so there was never a VD tent.
