Assault weapons?

Post by Niner » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:52 pm

Lots of press from time to time about criminals with "assault" weapons and legal moves to have them outlawed although there is already a fully auto ban in place already. But what is an assault weapon anyway in the public mind? High capacity magazines? How it looks make any difference? Is an SKS an assault weapon? The semi AK47's and M15's assault weapons? But a semi auto hunting rifle or shotgun not?

The National Firearms Act of 1936 is not a ban on Full-auto weapons, just a control and tax mechanism. Along with revisons in 1968 and 1986.

Some states do have their own laws about what can be owned, ie DEWATS vs working weapons, etc.

The media in my country is not reflecting or reporting on the true stats of this class of weapon as it relates to crime (the Semi's mind you). Just as well ,they would faint if they knew of the current buying/building frenzy going on before next year.

* Not my Finn KP-44 or the Bren,But they are legal none the less. ;)
