Nice pics Martin, I am interested in seeing more of your rifle if you have a chance to post more photos.
When i went to view my rifle there was a choice of two, (both recently imported from Germany) the one i passed on was also a 1942`ish Izhevsk, with a rough, unfinished, round receiver.
The woodwork was in very nice condition and the barrel looked crisp, but i was more taken with the markings on the earlier Tula.
The picture of your barrel shows a rough finish, does this extend to the muzzle?
Joe

Nice rifle, Joe!
Normaly the rough turning marks do not extend till the muzzle, because a bayo was fitted and the barrel was smoothed on that part, where the bayo would sit.
Seems like, I should pay more attention to the russian Mosins, some good ones in the croud of WW2 built an later refurbed guns

Chris already answered the question Joe.The picture of your barrel shows a rough finish, does this extend to the muzzle?
Woodwork and barrel are in very good condition on my 91/30 too.
I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow evening.
She performed well with the .308 bullets, but my guess is that she will perform even better with the 210gn .311 casted ones.
I'll keep you posted.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Martin

The 1943 Izzy turned up at the range today and i had a chance to shoot it along side my Tula. Both rifles shot approximately 18inches high at 200m with the sights set at 100m. I also took the opportunity to take some side by side comparison pics of the cousins.
