CCW and decisions

Have had a concealed weapon permit for a few years now, but once I got it, just never was inclined to carry one. Am debating now whether to renew the permit.

Maybe I will just throw the permit (like a Ninja star) at any bad people.

Unfortunetly ther is no "open carry" in Texas. So I have no choice but to carry conceled.

Last saturday Loving Wife and I went out to eat. We went to a local Sports Grill as she had won a $25.00 gift check from them. As we were waiting for a table( there were 3 football games on the telly's) I was bumped from behind. I was wearing my SIG 220 in a Don Hume IWB rig at about the 4:30 position, covered by a Hawaiian flowered shirt. The next thing I know the off duty cop( HPD) was showing me his badge and asking if I was armed. I replied yes, and that I was a CCL holder. He asked to see my CCL and I reached into my shirt pocket for the leather folder I carry it in and gave it to him. He looked at it, He looked at me, He looked at it again. Then he handed it to me with the comment "I don't like it, but I guess your legal" and turned away. Our table was called then and we went and ate a very good meal while discussing this.

He never asked Loving Wife if she was armed. She was carrying a Colt LW Commander in .45cal! AND her CCL.

From now on I will try to keep away from crowded venues!

Good thing he asked questions first and showed a badge at the same time, huh?

A good example why I don't want a license to carry around a gun under my shirt.

Any particular reason you and your wife think somebody wants to harm you to the extent that you need to pack pistols when going out to eat? No offense meant, just curious. Seems like that incident could have turned out more dangerous than it, thankfully, did.

There are bad people everywere. No one knows when or where a violent, drunk or mental person will be at any one time. Both me and my Loving Wife believe that the defence of onself is up to us. The Police, Constable and or Bobby are NOT here to defend us 24/7! They are mainly a reactive force that comes in AFTER the deed is done, chalk marks the body, takes a report, and looks for evidence. I do NOT want to be a chalk mark on the ground!!! I am not a violent fellow. However I do want the violence to be over quickly, and to be the one standing when it is over.
As a USMC Master Gunner once told me" BOY, ifen yer standin, breathen, and not bleedin too much, YOUR THE WINNER! And standin is optional!!"

If this bothers you then so be it.

It doesn't bother me that you carry a gun around. It would only bother me if I carried a gun around. :loco:

Back in the halcyon days of 'Possess, use and carry' pistol licences in NSW and when I was a Licenced Pistol Dealer I was told by the Inspector who issued my licence that if I was carrying pistols in the normal course of business or otherwise and somebody attempted to steal them then that was as far as it should go: attempted. Things have changed

My carry gun was a 5 and 1/2" barrel, 1873 Colt in .455" British, and it was generally a bloody nuisance. I could never take my coat off even on really hot days. Later I started wearing a shoulder rig and carrying my .22 Star Model F. Sport pistol, mainly because I could go to the indoor range at Wynyard Station and have a bit of practice,(the .455" was frowned upon). Then the hot weather started again and I ruined a couple of good white shirts with holster stains, had to keep them for carry shirts. One thing that the Colt was useful for was as a fender for people who liked to push and shove in crowds; very satisfying look of surprise and pain when they bounced off my hip.

Still I'd like the option of carrying or not as the fancy took me.
