This turned up today, although I think I actually paid for it at the Phoenix (British police system, plus moving house, having slowed actually getting my grubby little mits on it.) It is a Martini Metford carbine, BSA made but civilian rather than military, with 'nitro proved' stamped under the left of the rearsight. Its got some pitting to the barrel, bayonet lug and butt plate, but the action block itself is in pretty good condition, and the bore is quite clean. I have a horrible feeling that they may start breeding, leaving me with two 'families' to cater for.

That is a nice little unit. What sort of bayonet will it take ? The nosecap looks very similar to the MLE. They are appealing. Got my first a while back and am now giving serious attention to a conversion to .22 by Greener.

Well, it, along with a Lee Metford and a MkI***, are in need of some testing, hopefully in the new year.
I got offered a Martini Enfield carbine at the same time, but sadly couldn't take the set. I'd also fired it at the open day, and I have to say that those things have a nastly nip. It tore quite a hole in my right index figure.
and the trigger pull is heavy, but the short travel seems to compensate for it.
