Kicking around a buy, sell, trade forum
Since the start this site has stayed away from such a forum because of an asortment of possible negative outcomes which could arise. However, we are rethinking it among the moderators at the moment.
If we should open such a forum, with in addition to other normal limitations, the requirement for initial offers being restricted to registered users who have posted at least, say 25 times previously in other forums at this site, what would your reaction be?

Buy, Sell, Trade
I think this is an excellent idea but would also respect that there has obviously been some good reasons for not having one in the past. Being new to this forum I obviously don't know all the reasons for restricting this proposed forum but it occurs to me that this would obviously limit the market for selling or trading and in turn could affect competitive pricing.
Just a somewhat uninformed thought tentatively forwarded. Also trying to get up to 25 posts :-)

Buy/Sell????
I voted no.This is a good discussion forum and although I'm sure it would be kept in order, there is just something "pure" about this place. My two cents worth.

As a moderator on other forums I get to see all the stuff about bad sellers and such and how the owners have to deal with it all ... you have to mediate the whole thing and get involved ... I tell you it is a pain in the you know what ... I voted NO ... this forum has run on no sales and it will continue to ...

A formal gun sales forum would probably prove impractical.
While informal sales between members may be possible, within a country, I suspect that there would be a number of legal problems selling internationally, especially with the 'anti terrorist' organisations/agencies and (in the case of the UK) the political vermin, sticking their oars in.
A few practical questions which spring to mind are,
Who is finantially responsible if Customs/the Government seize a weapon being imported? and
How (and who) does one notify on the sale of a weapon (if any) if he buyer is a foreign national living abroad (and how does one 'verify' the validity of any licence*)?
For International (or even inter-state?) sales, would a registered firearms dealer need to be involved in any deals?
There may be a case for a spares and accessories sales forum, or an informal 'wants and available' list (which may contain whole weapons), but I think that, if guns are being sold, lawyers may need to be consulted (on both sides of the Atlantic, Pacific, the Channel/North Sea and basically, in any country in which a deal may take place).
It's a nice idea, but I don't think the horse will run.
Sorry for the somewhat disjointed argument.

* I'm not suggesting that any member would consider any illegal action, but there's probably a legal requirement somewhere.

The majority of the moderators, after talking it over in our private forum, do not support a conventional buy, sell, or trade board. In any case, lots of other sites have them and we wouldn't be inventing anything that there weren't plenty of already.
We are now thinking along the lines of a "wants" forum as possible. The object being along the lines of somebody wanting something that somebody else, maybe even in a different county, can direct him to or otherwise assist by a response. That sort of thing, yet to be defined completely. Although this sort of thing has been allowed here all along anyway.

At the moment the idea has been tabled altogether.
We are not going to do a buy, sell, trade forum. It is still unclear if we really need a wants forum.
