Accoutrements of a sort

Post by Niner » Sat Apr 05, 2008 9:51 pm

Some years ago I bought some scrap leather from a flea market and made a pouch to carry ammo for my .50 cal rifles. Leather draw string is used to tighten the opening where the ammo is loaded. The opening is just large enough to allow one .490 lead ball to pass through at a time. Put a strap on it to carry around my neck and made a small envelope size pouch to carry a tin of caps in. Works pretty much as I had hoped it would. Beats the box the lead balls came in as a way to transport ammo to the field or range.

INTERESTING

Does that make you a back woodsman or a front woodsman :)

I keep thinking about making a holster for my 1858 but have not seen any leather that would do the job.

Holster for 1858?

Why not just buy one? You know the fashion was to wear it on the left side, butt forward, if right handed and the right side butt forward if left handed. Officers, who usually were the ones with hand guns, had their swords hanging from the other side to balance the load.

There is something about making your own that is very satisfying. That goes for Ball, Bullet, Holster or Fortune!!

You should see the prices that they want for holsters here - it would send a cold shiver down your spine
