S98 nA

Post by joseyclosey » Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:00 pm

Just picked up this bayonet for my G98, no scabbard unfortunately.

Its a S98 neuer Art (new pattern) with two piece wooden grips. Manufacturer is Simson & Co., Suhl. The unit marking is worn and the only decipherable letters are... 14R---78.

These bayonets were discontinued by 1914 in favor of the shorter S98/05 bayonet.

Joe. Take a hi-res photo of it as close as you can while keeping it sharp. Open in a good photo editing programme ( Photoshop ) invert the image and play around with the contast. That sometimes works. If you don't have Photoshop PM me and I will try and assist

Is that what is called a "sword" bayonet? Seems to fit the discription.
