It's actually even closer to Webley's MkIV revolver in .38/200. After Webley produced the MkIV, the British gov't took to to RSAF-Enfield. They produced a similar revolver with internals just different enough so the parts wouldn't interchange.

Webley sued the British gov't over this to recoup the costs of developing their new revolver but didn't succeed.

Since I don't yet have a Webley MkIV, here is the image on the wikipedia page for comparison.

Outstanding shots of some very charming, yet deadly British Arms!

I have a few also.

I am not entirely happy with the DAO No2 Mk1* revolver. If possible to convert from DAO to SA/DA, where would I be able to purchase the required parts?

That's a nice set of Enfields there.

It is possible to convert from the MkI* and MkI** to the original SA/DA MkI, but it's darn near impossible to find an unmodified original hammer. The pistols were produced in SA/DA from 1927 to 1938. From 22 June 1938 until 1963 they were made in DAO. Many of the earlier pistols already in service had their hammers modified by unit armorers to the MkI* standards.

I'll take apart my Enfields this weekend and take some photos of part differences for reference purpose.

Edit- Made a small typo. 22 June 1938 was the date the bobbed hammer DAO Enfield No2 MkI* modification was put into effect.

Great information. If I can acquire the required parts, including a bobbed hammer, I can possibly return the revolver to SA/DA mode. I do not want to modify the existing hammer.

I am lucky to have a gunsmith living just up the hill. He will be able to weld a spur on the bobbed hammer.

The 38S&W round is quite accurate, but shooting the 146 grain bullet with the tall front sight in DAO mode is too much of a challenge. I am unable to punch one ragged hole in a target from 15 yards.

Its your revolver and you can do what you want with it but I wouldn't convert an original DA Enfiield.

I'd go and buy a single action MK1 or a Webley Police.

These pistols will only get scarcer and scarcer so why add to their demise.

Look at Enfield rifles getting silly prices now when 20 years ago they couldn't give them away.

Nothing will be done to the sidearm that cannot easily be undone.

I too, do not like to see scarce or uncommon martial arms modified from thier original configuration.

This Enfield is one of two revolvers that I want to sell. I prefer autoloaders.

I am just weighing the options of how to fully enjoy the No2 if it does not sell. The No2Mk1** feels very good in my hand, just like a target pistol.
