Milsurp Marathon Match 7/1 - 9/30 2005

Post by SgtJethro » Tue Jun 28, 2005 7:56 pm

All right you Milsurpian Mastadons, the Magnificent Mauser Match is almost over. Time to get another match underway. Hopefully, more of you will get off your butt and get out to the range. It only takes money to collect them. Now let's see who can shoot them.

Continuing with the 3M theme, let's call this one the Milsurp Marathon Match. Any valid milsurp rifle with issue sights is eligible and that includes sniper rifles.

Targets will be the same as previously used. Either the 100 yard smallbore target or the one used for the matches over on http://www.surplusrifle.com courtesy of Jamie Mangrum.

Categories:

A. Offhand - iron sights, no slings or other bondage devices. 50 yards.

B. Prone/Sitting/Kneeling - iron sights, slings okay, but no other support. You may sit at a bench, but the use of any support other than your elbows on the table is a no-no. Distance is 100 yards.

C. Snipers - prone/sitting/kneeling. 200 yards.

D. Black Powder - BP cartridge or muzzle stuffers original or reproductions. 50 yards offhand.

Ammo: If your rifle will shoot it, it is eligible.

Course of fire: 12 rounds with best 10 counting.

Scoring: Points are awarded based on the ring in which the round hits. Rounds which break a ring boundary (that is break and not touch) will be score on the higher rings value. X-ring hits are 10 points. X-ring hits will also be counted separately for use as tie breakers. Hits outside of the 5-ring count as zero.

Prizes:

First place: First place will be award in each category and will entitle the winner to bragging rights. Maybe we will find some appropriate certificate suitable for framing that might at least be used to hide an embarassing hole in the wall.

Dates: July 1 through midnight October 2nd.

Entry Submission: Post your results in the Milsurp Marathon Match Entries thread in this forum. As in the past, please provide the identification of the rifle used, the category, shooting position, ammo, and your score. You need not post a picture of your targets, but pictured results will take precedence over non-pictured results in cases of a tie.

You may enter as many times as you like, but should only submit one entry per rifle.

If it makes you feel better, you may gloat or offer whinny-assed excuses for not doing better.

SPECIAL RULE You will have fun.

Sgt Jethro

Oh, now I remember why we keep you on the payroll!

For you, my chamber pot custodian, we will make it 100 yards.

Mike,

does this mean we are going to have a concurrent whining competition alongside AJ's new shoot?

If so count me in as I could "whine about moosers" for Scotland. :D

My motto is: "No whining, no participate!" Kind'a like the gal at the Chinese laundry..."No ticky no laundry!"

If one can't hit ***t one best be able to whine!

the weathers bound to break here sometime before September. Right now it's so hot the cartridges go off before the bolt's closed, and mirage is so strong I'm certain I can see the ocean.

Michael,

just lay those loaded rifles out on the bench in the cool of the morning pointing in the general direction of the target, then come back in the cool of the evening and see how you did. :D

Bound to beat my scores at least.

What position is the Black Powder comp shot in?

Is the offhand competition open to muzzle loaders?

Hi David,

How quickly do you need to know?

Old Badger Breath AJ, who is responsible for this shambles and is the only one who may know whats in his deranged mind, is away for a few days.

If you need an answer quickly then we'll make up the missing parts of the course of fire, no problem as no one has shot these particular comps yet.

Probably because they don't make sense.
