Adam, that is one very nice piece of history you have there, I thank you for the pictures. Wild haggis ( Haggie?) would not have stopped you posting them after blackisler fed you the chance I suspect.

I can't hit a country with a S/S let alone a clay and I have to say that I much prefer a plain rather than engraved piece.

I may have said this before but my favorite shotgun was an original (not Webley) WW Greener GP that I stupidly sold in the UK some years ago.

A friend has a Greener GP MkII that he bought new about thirty years ago and has hardly ever shot. I had a look at it a couple of months ago and it looked brand new, not a mark on it.

I have to digress to Adams superb defence of the magnificant side by side 10 bore , A true man size shotgun [obviously made for a scot] .

However it is slightly over kill when shooting pigeons or rabbits[ there would not be much left to eat ] also I would think it could be rather expensive to shoot clays with. I still prefer the over under configuration for shooting clays and pheasants with.

I loaded up 6 brass cases yesterday ( 3 with 7½ and 3 with 6 ) and shot a couple of 'pattern plates', 200mtr target board covered in wallpaper! At 30 mtrs I was getting a good pattern and after comparing it with a modern cartridge it was obvious that the brass loads would be fine for clays.

I am now waiting for Buffalo Arms to give me a price for 2 boxes shipped to France and we are in business

What is the comparable costs for your reloads to the factory ammo?

I have thought about reloading but find it is cheaper to buy my cartridges , well for the moment anyway

However, the Brass Cases are loaded with Black Powder not Smokeless because there is a range in Bordeaux that has a Clay Bird setup but ONLY for BP.

It seemed a sensible idea to buy a gun that I could shoot both with because there is no Clay Club as such in this part of France. The only clay shoots are in the summer, run by the local Hunt Associations. They are called 'Ball Trap' and are normally only for one day.

Last weekend I was able to go and shoot some DTL with this Marocchi and the triggers lasted for almost 20 rounds before the front one almost fell off!

On Wednesday I took it back to the dealer where I bought it and after 2 hours waiting for their gunsmith ( I use the term loosely ) to sort the problem I was told that it could not be repaired easily.

As they had 3 more versions of this shotgun on the shelves at the same price that I paid, all with loose triggers, I demanded a re-fund or a replacement with another gun.

After waiting for the boss for another 30 mins I agreed to exchange for this and some shells.

Built like a brick sh#*$ouse with 3 chokes and a selective ejector/non ejector. Stock is walnut (not French) but it mounts well and will serve me well for DTL.

I just wish I still had my Greener GP

I like the Baikal's, a brand new, single 12bore (Lebel ) was about 30 quid in the early 70's, and gave me years of good service.
