Enforcer

Another rifle from "The Enfield Man's" collection, in his own words.....

This Enforcer is a low serial number 033 which fortunately has retained all its original parts the action, bolt, magazine, wood and sight all match. Early rifles had the serial number of the rifle marked onto the underside of the ocular lens this appears to have been done at the factory (Pecar) rather than by an armourer using some readily available sharp object.

Another interesting part of this rifle is the rail which the scope rings are fitted to. I would imagine that every person who owns cherishes and has ever shot an Enforcer which is fitted with a Pecar 4-10 scope will have experienced that sudden pain and felt the sensation of something warm running down the outside of your nose.

The 4-10 scope sits well back over the action and trying to set the scope far enough forward to ensure that you have a good (safe) eye relief is impossible because the turret block fouls the front rings)

If you are taking deliberate shots with no time limit the painful aspect of shooting the Enforcer can be avoided although you may get a playful little peck above the eyebrow that doesn't break the skin however when there was a line of you at 300 yds shooting at 3 second snaps (all with Enforcers) an "Enforcer eye" was guaranteed (my how the instructors laughed)

I decided to fit a scope to my L39 using a bolt-on Armalon Weaver rail and found the same problem with eye relief, only more so - I use a long butt even with iron sights and the L39 was unusable with the scope and long butt. So, after much deliberation and fruitless enquiries around the bazaars, I took the normal butt the L39 came with, which is not serial numbered to it, cut it just aft of the sling swivel and inserted two beech spacers for a total of 2" increased length. While I had the tools out I also fabricated and attached a pistol grip. It now looks like nothing on earth but is a pleasure to shoot.
