Part of my pedigree

Post by Brass Rat » Sun Aug 03, 2008 1:13 pm

My mother recently sent this to me.

It is a page from a census of Confederate veterans that was done in Alabama in 1907.

#46 is my Great Great Grandfather on my mothers side.

His son Ralston C "Clyde" Cosby was a member of Company E, First Regiment of Infantry Alabama Volunteers

in 1898 but the Spanish American war ended while they were still at the dock getting ready to embark.

This is a copy of his discharge on 31 Oct 1898.

Clyde's son Earl, my Grandfather was the one who introduced me to competitive shooting in the mid 60's.

He was a career Army officer who retired as a bird Colonel.

He was a company commander in the 132nd Infantry on Guadalcanal and Bougainville.

I have been told that he moved up to Battallion in the Philippines but I don't have any documentation to support this.

His records were destroyed in the fire in in the St. Louis record center.

As you can see I come from good stock but some how I ended up in the USAF.

I am sure that they would all be proud that my son Ryan has

followed my lead and is currently serving in the Air Force.

Ain't nothing wrong with the Air Force. The Army and Marine officers come over and say, "Son I want you to go up there and get that bunker and then report back to me." In the Air Force its, "Go give 'em hell sir. I'll be waiting here when you get back." And they're civilized too, they sleep in beds every night.

Having been both USMC and USAF, I can say without hesitation that I made an AF career out of being a former Marine. Had I not been married and had a child, I would have been a career Marine. That said, I was married and had a child, and in that regard, found the AF to be by far the most accomidating for family life overall. "Chesty Puller said that if the Corps had wanted married marines they would have issued them a wife!".

Much to be said for that! Semper Fi! As the old saying goes, once a Marine, always a Marine!
