Took my Sniper rifle to the range

It's one of those recent imports that are of dubious sniper quality and probable late constructs for sale to people like me who don't really care how "real" it is. Well the rifle has a 1943 date anyway.....and it could have been a sniper. Well, couldn't it?

It took me a while to get the scope right. The screws weren't tight and it had lost it's zero. Have to get some lock tight I guess.

Well, copper wash surplus with yellow tip was what was used. And it was pretty decent ammo.

Took a while to get it pretty close. Made one last click and fired the last three rounds into a new piece of paper.

What range, 50yds? That scope looks brand new - is it?

The range was about 75 feet... I was just trying to adjust the scope. I didn't try it at 100 yards.

The scope looks to have come to me unissued. It is marked with the post 1928 Izhevsk arrow in a tiangle, as a "real" one probably would have. It also has an unknown mark to me of a 5 in a diamond too. I'd guess from other marks in which Poland put various marks in diamonds that it may have had some Polish connection. But this is entirely speculation on my part.

I got a feeling the scope is real enough in so far as what it represents itself to be as a scope is concerned. It is just about certain it was never used before I received it. But considering how many "sniper" rifles Russia must have produced during and after the war years the real thing ought to be dime a dozen it would seem.

niner, your scope & mount look to be high quality repros that are machined from solid steel, not sand cast.

I had one that came from IO in Monroe NC. Very high quality build, true to the originals, but are repros & not originals.

You have one of the better ones, if not the best.

As long as the rifle is up to the optics, you'll have a winner!

I picked up a decent repo this Spring, hoping for "Something new" , though I dont use scopes.

Fact is, by the time I had it sighted in , the image was visibly off to the left, though it shot spot on with heavy ball at 200 yards, I couldnt get used to the picture...oh well, I cleaned it and boxed it to the attic of a house I own in Noorvik. Figured I'd study the subject, and get it fixxed or replace the scope this winter, as I want a "Shooter"

Must say too, the chin hold is easier than the cheek hold on other rifles, I didnt mind it at all.

Repos may need tweeking, but I think they are mostly solid guns.

I think I have your mount and scopes twin brother.

Only difference is....my sniper is in my collection, so I'm not allowed to take her to the range.

Martin, I'd say our scopes and mounts came from the same source. Too bad you can't shoot yours. Any chance you could have your sniper exchange places with one you can shoot and be allowed to shoot it?

I can answer that question short and simple........NO.

Our law says: when you shoot, you shoot and when you collect you collect.

I wish it were different, but I can understand it is done this way.

My shooters license has a limit of 5 fire arms.

My collectors license has no limit.

I already have 5 fire arms on my shooters license so there's no room for one more.

I have to make choices.

I'm very happy that I'm one of the very, VERY few owning a Dutch collectors license (still grateful niner)

I'm also used to this gun law and when you stick to the rules....much can be done.

So you are stuck with the same five shooters from now on?

Any chance you cold sell one of the shooters and add something else in the slot it leaves? Then buy back the one you sold and put it in the collectors slot? Guess that would be considered skirting the law...or would it?
