I was bored recently so I started a project. The idea was to tag each gun in my collection and include information about each on the tag. The information includes the page number each is listed in my bound book if it is C&R. If it were collected before C&R and not listed in the book it is so noted. Also are listed model and serial number as well as date acquired and the price I paid for it then.
I have another list of my collection, both C&R, pre C&R and modern, kept in a safe. On that list is purchased date, cost, an estimated present value as of the date I made the list.
So what I called myself doing is making it easy to know my way around the collection at a glance as to C&R status and what I paid for it and how long I had had each piece. If the BATF wants to check my record keeping some time it will make it easier to do a show and tell. And when I drop dead my family can sort through the collection more intelligently.
The tags are attached with a simple loop in a string. I can take them off to go shooting any time I want.

Admirable sir - nothing like getting to grips with a collection. Trouble is if the wife sees the total invested at the bottom so i try and keep things quiet

It's an investment
Gone up in value more than most of the S&P 500 in recent years.
