Hi Brad,

Bring on the half nekkid serving wenches!

I originally looked at about 10 bolt heads I had for the No4, different mfg's most were a mix of LB and CAI. Out of those, 8 were "normal" and 2 were tapered. Since that post I have looked at 5 more, and of those, 4 were tapered and one was not! The last five were all CAI bolt heads, and new. I think you may be right, the design was changed at some point, and prior to that, perhaps some savvy armourers did the mod at unit level. This is what makes collecting Enfields fun!

Oh, a number 1 bolt head. As opposed to a bolt head for a No. 1. In any case, you can't just change bolt heads without checking the headspace with headspace guages. You alter the headspace when you change bolt heads. Hand onto that number 2 bolt head too. They've become scarce.
