New Shooting Competition!!!

Post by dromia » Thu Sep 11, 2008 3:49 pm

OK gentlemen the summer is passing and the serious shooting season is starting.

I'm proposing an autumn competition for military rifles with issue sights and any ammunition.

You can have multiple entries with different rifles

Heres the rules.

1. This competition is for average group size not score.

2. Groups can be anywhere on the target.

3. Any target can be used as an aiming mark

4. This competition can be shot at any distance out to 100 yrds from any position including benched and rested but only a front rest can be used.

5. 100 yrd group sizes will be used for "score" e.g. if you shoot a 1" group at 25yrds then your group size for the record will be 4"

6. There will be three rounds to this competition September, October and November. Each round will consist of two targets with two groups of five rounds shot on each target - just move your sights between groups.

7. For "score" measure each group to 1/100s of an inch and then subtract the calibre from that number.

8. Write the measurement of each group on the target by the group along with the range its been shot at, rifle and ammunition used along with your handle/name, photograph it and send the picture to me. I'll keep the scores and post the positions at the end of each round.

9. You can post your photos here but that is not obligatory, even if you do post them here you must still send me a copy also as that is your entry for each round. Pictures for each round must be with me by the last day of each month.

10. I'll average out the group sizes and then rank accordingly.

11. You can shoot all three rounds, total 6 targets with 12 groups for "score" all in one sitting or stagger it per month I don't care but late entries will not be accepted.

12. There will be prizes and my decision and interpretation of the "rules" is final.

Well that kicks it off, register your intention to particpate here and start shooting.

I'm sure to have forgotten something so post any questions here.

All measurements to be in imperial units i.e. inches and fractions thereoff.

None of that metric, Napoleons revenge measurements because I can't and won't use it.

So rods and chains are OK then ? :D

Our range is still out of action but I was planning on having a look at the one at Kempsey, this just gives me a bit of incentive.
The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.

Yep the whole 5 1/2 yrds.

1 chain = 22 yrds

1 Pole or Rod = 1/4 chain = 5 1/2 yrds

Easy, why bother with all this base 10 nonsense. :D

It'll be a pleasure Joe, after all these years of watching you yank the trigger it'll be good to eventually see you shoot groups. ;)
