got another .22 martini last week, heres some pics of the pair i have.

the top ones the 'new' 'un.its a 1876 enfield reciever,been converted to .22 match rifle by the london small arms co. ltd. for the society of miniature rifle clubs.


the 'old 'un is a 1884 enfield converted to .303 in 1897, then converted to .22 target rifle for the nra by w.w. greener.

I couldn't make out how the BSA sights are fitted, Joe. Are they fixed to the receiver or to the woodwork?

Clearly your tang sight (the one with the multi-hole eyepiece) CAN be used with the standard rear sight in place so you have answered the question in my range report.





Could you tell me what model of sight is fitted as my mate has another stock that has been drilled for a tang sight and I would rather swap stocks than butcher an unmarked original?





Another question, do your rifles seem to prefer any particular brand of ammo? I ask because there was a guy at the range yesterday with a fancy, scoped target rifle with dozens of boxes of different ammo shooting groups. Is there that much variation in .22 ammo and is it just a case of suck it and see? Also, do you get the rounds at a better price if you buy in larger quantities? I have 1200 to possess and 1000 to buy on my FAC and was thinking of buying 500 tomorrow.





I agree with your comment about these Martinis being addictive. I stripped mine down today to clean and oil the action and was very impressed with the simplicity and precision of fit of the components, this I think is the essence of good design. Brilliant.

I hope that you do not mind me dropping my two cents worth on the subject of 22 ammo.





Lately I have been doing a lot of 22 shooting with my nine 22 rifles and have found that each likes a particular brand of fodder. My BSA Martini 12 shoots great with cheap Remington Thunderbolts while the 12/15 can't hit a barn with them. It likes Remington Target. A couple of my rifles shoot best with the Wolf Match Target with others prefer the Wolf Match Extra. My Remington 513T thrives on a diet of Winchester Super-X. One or two favor the CCI ammo. All detest the CCI green label target ammo.





Based on my experience, I would suggest that you try some of each brand that you have available and determine which performs the best in your rifle, especially if you will be shooting for scores. If you are just plinking, then it probably will not matter much.
