I've got no information other than the photo. But I would question the wisdom of doing it just to see what would happen as appears to be the case.

I have no idea what it means. Pretty good drill press and the hardness of the bit must have been above average though. :loco:

What kind of rifle do you think it was? If it was a rifle.

Pretty sure its a P14. They were DP'd in this manner. Top handguard looks like a P14. Picture is labelled MilDPriflefired which would suggest a DP'd military rifle

Not dangerous to fire, providing that you don't look down the hole. :shock: I once brought a P14 barrel that had been drilled right through the chamber back to firing condition by tapping the holes and screwing in plugs and then running a chambering reamer in to remove the excess on the plugs. We made the reamer to a cast of the chamber. Wouldn't have bothered except that the barrell appeared to be unused; I've seen a few near perfect P14s that had been DPed.
