Arizona moves to allow concealed guns in bars

PHOENIX - There was a time in the Wild West that cowboys had to check
their guns before they could pull up a bar stool for a drink - rules
that protected against the saloon gunfights that came to define the
frontier era in places like Arizona.

But a bill moving through the Arizona Legislature has some bar owners
fearful that the state is turning back the clock to the Old West.
Lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow anyone with a
concealed-weapons permit to bring a handgun into bars and restaurants
serving alcohol.

This year's bill is one of several measures loosening gun laws moving
through the Arizona Legislature.

In May, the House overwhelmingly approved a bill that would permit gun
owners to keep a weapon out of sight in a locked vehicle in a parking
lot or garage. That would override employers that ban weapons on their
property.

Last week, a Senate committee approved a bill that would allow Arizonans
to carry concealed weapons without state permits, despite objections
from law enforcement.

Concealed is an unfair advantage in a potential bar fight seems to me. Some guy might think he's getting into a fist fight and is unarmed and find out the fellow he wants to punch it out with has a different plan. Why not just strap on a couple of revolvers and have them in plain sight? It decides the guns or fists thing right up front.

All I would say is 'Guns and Booze don't mix' - on the range or anywhere else in my opinion. Just how many bars ARE there in Arizona anyway

How about adding an ammendment to the effect that all the legislators who voted FOR the bill become personally responsible for any arm (to person or property) caused by the bill?

Who then is responsible of either weapons are stolen from a vehicle or in a vehicle which is stolen while in a company car park?

According to the article (I only copied the highlights) the person carrying the gun can not drink alcohol.
Arizona is a very gun-friendly state, it was quite a shock when I moved here from California, which is not gun friendly.

Keep in mind that 2 states, Alaska and Vermont, already allow concealed guns with no permit, so this isn't new.
And 37 states allow guns in restaurants, bars or some types of alcohol selling places.

I do not try to defend the legislature, but I will try to start an arguement if possible.



This is my personal opinion and reply to your replies.

First let me thank you for pointing out that guns and liquor do not mix, I never thought of that.

That pic is a very nice set of pistols, but seldom used for casual wear, only for formal wear and black tie occasions. Casual is usually just holster, belt mounted, with thumb snap.
As for bar fights, if you were unarmed, would you start a fight with someone that very possibly IS armed, it would make me think twice.

I don't know how many bars there are in Arizona, would guess about average.

Making legislators responsible for any harm caused by this bill is unlikely, since they didn't make them responsible for harm or deaths when they upped the speed limit from 55mph to 75mph on the freeways.
As to who is responsible for guns stolen from company parking lot, I guess it is the same person that steals them when parked in your driveway at home, the thief.
When someone steals your gun in this country , you report it to the police and then go buy another one.

You have a level headed view of things Vern. You have about convinced me to move to Arizona for the freedom of it, except there is no salt water fishing and my wife wouldn't go with me. Besides, after the cell phone that I swore I'd never get, I don't need something else to be carrying around all the time just like I needed it. And I'm afraid that somebody would eventually cut me off in traffic and I'd pull the gun out and get in trouble for sure.

By the way I got a single holster version buscadero rig. I'd fit right in.

I don't blame you for not carrying, I don't bother to either.
That is a beautiful set up of gun and holster, wish I had one like it.
And you are right about the salt water fishing, we do have some of the best beaches, just no water.
