YO!

Post by Calfed » Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:38 pm

New member here. Thought I would check in.

Have been collecting milsurps for a few years now. Started with Swiss, because they were available cheap at the local sporting goods store and got hooked. Now I have Swedish, German, South American , Czech and Yugo Mausers, Finn and Russian Mosins, SMLE's and P-14's, various US semi and bolts, Arisaka's, etc, etc.

Basically, I love 'em all now.

My main activity with them is to shoot them in "military surplus sillhouette" matches at a local range, with my sons. The matches are 40 round matches, fired in 10 round strings at chicken silhouettes @ 200 meters, pigs @ 300, turkeys @ 385 and rams @ 500 meters. The rifles have to be "as issued", with standard stocks, triggers, barrels and sights. Great fun.

Here is a pic of the range that we shoot these matches at:

Welcome Calfed.
I'm glad you decided to check in.
I noticed you own a couple of Mosin Nagants.
I'd love to see some pictures of those in the Mosin Nagant section sometime. :D

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

BTW...those are great pictures.
Thanks for sharing them.

What are you doing Steve, following me around to different boards
You had better watch the English and Dutch members here, they like to EAT us Americans for breakfast, especially Adam (dromia), he is Scottish and you know what they like do to us Americans: subject us to that bagpipe music, make you dance and eat Haggis  :D , seriously if you want to learn about the Lee-Enfield he is the person to teach you, he knows these inside and out plus he is a crack shot, I have seen him shoot.
Welcome to the boards here

Thanks all, for the warm welcome.

Patrick, I'm not following you around, but if you wish to refer to me as "Gum on my Shoe", I'll understand. Let's just say that it was a pleasant surprise to find you here and I hope you are recuperating.

Dutch Mosin, I'll post a few picks of some of my Mosins in the appropriate forum.

DuncaninFrance, I appreciate the welcome and will post a few pics of some French milsurps that found their way into my collection.

dhtaxi, thanks for the welcome and the nice comments regarding the range. Here is an aerial shot that shows the 1000 yards, tactical, short range (300 yard) rifle, pistol, .22, and "cowboy action" ranges.

I am doing well ... much better now that pain in my stomach is GONE
I have been here since the beginning of the forum, in-fact I was Niner's first moderator.
This place is where I meet Adam, Joe, Dave and a few others from England and got to meet them in person when I went there, twice.
Adam is one of the most gracious hosts you could ever have, he made both of my stays at his place the best :D . Adam and his wife are the nicest people to ever know. Only thing is sometime you can not understand him so you just shake your head in agreement, uh-huh, uh-huh , must be a Scottish thing, I do not think they speak English or should I say the Queens English, seriously though, Adam is one great friend and mate you could ever have.
Joe and I went hunting for rabbits and pheasants and he came close to bagging a really mean weasel with a 12 guage shotgun, he did make him dance for his life though, that weasel had nine lives that day, I am not going to let you live that down Joe
Martin (Dutch Mosin) sent me one a Dutch Army beret and a beautiful porcelian windmill to me while I was in Kuwait which was so cool and I really appreciated it to this day. He also can answer stuff about Dutch M1895 rifles and carbines, do not let him fool you into thinking he does not know it, he has helped answer quite a few questions on these weapons.
Duncan ... what can I say ... He is now a Frenchman, even though he still says he is from England, YEAH RIGHT ! ... all that French food and drink have made turned him French :D . This is the song he now sings as he drinks .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axfM1sFqIK0
This forum is alot slower than surplusriflesforum.com but here you get to interact with your friends on a more personal level of which I have made quite a few here.

For all of you who do not know Steve, well he is a great guy and a fellow moderator on surplusrifleforum, he collects everthing and anything, believe me. He also is quite versed in older police and G-Man used weapons from the gangster age. Steve is also a very good shot BTW as you can tell he goes to the range alot, he will fit right into this forum as one of the gang. He also like to chat, I bet he will use the new chat, Skype, so look for him in the future there.
Once again welcome to the forum here Steve

Patrick......what a terrible thing to say about a Yorkshireman  I have been over here since 2002 trying to educate the peasants :ENG:
I do admit that during my 'Missionary Work' here I have adopted the odd vice but my passport stays says United Kingdom(!) of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the cover and I only speak enough French to keep me out of jail. I am a sort of ' Honorary Frenchie '
