Sight hood for 03

Post by Niner » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:39 pm

The daughter and wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I thought of a few odds and ends of things I probably wouldn't actually buy but would like to have. One of the things was a sight hood for the 03 Springfield. So I found one at a place called BuyMilsurp.com and it was one of the things they bought me.

It arrived today. Now I can't make it go on. An email reply to a question said I was right that it was supposed to clip on over the sight without bending anything, but the darn steel has no spring to it. Did notice the ersatz US property markings. I say ersatz, because it may well be made by some third world manufacturer. Who knows? The company I bought it from made no comment about where they came from so I don't blame them. Tomorrow I'll have to invent some way of getting it on without destroying anything important. :loco:

You are not too late with the suggestion. I had some other things on the agenda today. Haven't fooled with it.

Done. A little grease and it went on with one tap. The hood seems to make the narrow front sight blade stand out a lot better with my old eyes.

While the hood protects the thin front sight blade from damage, it also prevents soft flesh from being torn by the sharp sight blade. Don't ask me how I know that. Just remember; blood will damage the parkerized finish.
I removed the hoods from mine as the hood partially obscures the target.
