Besides the [SA] stamp denoting property of the Finnish Army is also carries the stamp of the finnish Prison Administration(Vankeinhoitolaitos).
This is, what a good friend in Finland found out for me from an inspector of the Prison Administration:
An inspector from the Prison Administration, Helsinki gave me the
following information:
- by 1995 Finnish prison guards carried a personal weapon. The
Ortgies pistol was one of the those in service use.
- in the 1990´s the personal weapons of the prison guards were
removed. A new system was introduced: every position of duty
had one weapon available for possible use as prescribed by
rules and regulations
- some of the different pistol models removed from the prison guards
have been sold to collectors
About the Ortgies Pistols:
- they have been acquired for the Prison Administration between 1929-1968
- The Ortgies pistols have been first in the service use of the Finnish Army, which
then later sold them to the Prison Administration.
- based on the inventory made on 22.8.1985 there were a total of 36 Ortgies pistols
in service use at the Prison Administration.
The last pieces of them have been decommissioned on 24.1.1997.
