The case was a good reproduction "It's in a nice case. . ." Which was true but not entirely accurate

Unfortunately the lid had screws holding the top onto the sides, which rather detracted fron the authenticity.
The gun appeared to have been chemically reblackened, which was a bit of a giveaway as Tranters had a highly polished 'electric' blue finish usually and the pits were not the same colour as the surface ! !
Asking price $A2,800; again I won't charge any commission, friends are friends after all. The same dealer had a battered .36" 5 shot, percussion Colt at $A1,400 (looked like a well used Uberti

a percussion 'Scottish' pistol, this was a cheap metal stocked Birmingham product and was as close to being a Scottish pistol as Birmingham is to being Dingwall (look it up) $A1,200.
He also had a "...genuine, original, leather, Colt 1911, US Government issue holster" and only$A250.
I just love Antique Fairs, I'd love to go to one but Fairs never last long enough to be antique
