You Guys Are A Bad Influence!

Post by aprayinbear » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:41 pm

So I start with a Mosin Nagant Refurb and love to shoot her. Then I started being seduced by those beautiful Swedes. Kept looking for a good price on one over the net. Next thing I know, I walk into a small local shop and ask the owner if he has a reliable source for a reasonably priced Swede. He starts scratching his head and says he might have one in a stack of rifles he is taking to an upcoming show. "Go in the back and have a look", he says, and guess what.... the second rifle I pull from its case is a model 96 Carl Gustaf made in 1909. The safety had been replaced but everything else seems to match. The little disc read #2 ( I had hoped for a #1), but the bore sure looked good to me. The metal was great and the stock wasn't bad, although it has its share or chips and dents here and there. Bottom line.... he sold it for a $250 out the door and we were both happy.  Can't wait to see how she shoots.

And as for my Mosin, don't worry she won't be neglected..... In fact I'm headed to the range tomorrow to try out some new reloads I worked up using "the Load. (12 gr. RedDot and 135 gr. cast bullets from Beartooth.) But that's another story.

Happy Shooting Guys! :SWI: :SCO: :FRA: :ENG: :CAN: :CA: :AUS: :GBR: :USA:

At the risk of being labeled a bad influence  you now need a Lee Enfield, and something french, and something American and, and, and .........
Well you get the idea.

Range Report.....

I love this rifle, nice feel, smooth 2 stage trigger, relatively light recoil and here is one of my groups shot at 60 yards (slightly under 1"... without the flyer its around 3/8") , open sights, aging eyes....... She has her share of bumps and bruises, but somehow that seems right for a 100 year old rifle.

From my other post, you know I've had a bit of trouble with cracked neck/shoulders from my reloads, but I hope I have that worked out with new quality brass, annealing the neck and partial neck sizing (I used a washer to lift the collet die off the shoulder a bit. Neat trick which worked just fine!)

And just for you Dutch! (excuse my oversight.) :NET: :GBR: :AUS: :NZ: :SCO: :USA: :SWI: :FRA: :CAN: :IRE:

Joseyclosey,

Here's a pic of my Swede and my 91/30. Both are more accurate then I expected and a blast to shoot. I'm reloading for both and shooting them as often as I am able. The second pic shows my "range" I have set up at my brothers place.

Forgot to add....

Woftam,

I forgot to ad..........

You are right.... I think a Lee Enfield is next on the list although I can't afford anything else for quite a while. I like the lines of the SMLE's and I especially like the way they feel in my hands. I'd also like a Husqvarna M38 sometime in the future. I never was much of a collector, but you guys really got me hooked. LOL

All The Best

Thanks for the pics ap, thats a nice little range you have there. What do you use for a back stop? or is it just deep woods behind the target ?
